Since the civil war started in Syria in 2011, more than 4.8 million people have been forced to leave their homes. Of these, nearly 80,000 have crossed the border and moved into the Za’atari refugee camp. We at Fundación MAPFRE wish to contribute to improving their quality of life, relieving the suffering of the refugees and safeguarding their human dignity.

To achieve this we need your collaboration to assist, in conjunction with the NGO Foundation for the Social Promotion of Culture (FPSC), which runs a clinic specializing in physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for refugees with disabilities at Za’atari. They deal mainly with children who have cerebral palsy, providing them with therapeutic and psychosocial services, medication and technical assistance: from walking sticks and crutches through to wheelchairs and orthopedic devices. They treat youngsters like Marwan, an eight year-old with diplegic cerebral palsy, who was able to walk with the aid of crutches after five months of physiotherapy, despite having weakened lower limbs and no muscle mass in his back and abdomen.

One of the worst problems that the Za’atari camp suffers from is that it lacks the necessary infrastructures to look after the needs of people with disabilities. Za’atari is actually a city with none of the services that are available in any of our own cities. This means that there is no transport available to get to the clinic in order to receive care. We need to acquire a mobile unit that can transfer them there to receive treatment.

Since it was set up, the FPSC has treated 2,050 people in Jordan, providing 70% of them with technical assistance. Your contribution is need to continue offering more opportunities to this generation and to the other thousands of people who have fled Syria for Jordan in search of shelter. If we pull together we can achieve it!

The project will be audited and you will be able to verify that your entire donations have been put towards the cause. Any amount is important. From the very first euro.
