In Malaga the “Altamar Association. Educación y familia (Education and family)” is carrying out a program to combat truancy and to offer opportunities to children from the Trinidad and El Perchel neighborhoods, two areas badly affected by drugs, family breakdown and other socio-economic problems.
In 2005 a group of women from the Trinidad and El Perchel neighborhoods decided to create an association to combat the social exclusion in these neighborhoods in which many families are affected by socio-economic problems, drugs, family breakdown, illiteracy, emotional imbalances, the lack of support for elderly people or ill people living alone and immigrants in difficult circumstances.
In this situation, one of the most detrimentally affected groups is children, who are forced to witness truly dramatic situations on a daily basis and often end up marginalized and without opportunities in life.
Through Sé Solidario (Show Solidarity), the “Altamar Association. Educación y familia (Education and Family)” seeks to support 44 children from 6 to 15 years old in order to offer them a better future. Help us to achieve it.
This project seeks to ensure that these children's most basic needs are met, regardless of their ethnicity or nationality. We want to cover basic needs such as food, access to hygiene and clothing, and also to offer them school materialsor help them get something as fundamental as reading glasses. We want them to be able to access education and learn societal codes of conduct which will enable them to fully learn and grow.
With a technical team comprising a volunteers coordinator, a teacher and a family counselor, 4 monitors and 50 Volunteers offer personalized school support, workshops, family counseling, a sports school and healthy habits, extracurricular activities and many other services which seek to reduce academic failure and student absenteeism.
Helping them to finish their studies and stay enthusiastic about them will enable them to have a better future.
It is possible to end social exclusion. Together we can offer them an opportunities-filled life.
