From the outset, we have paid particular attention to collections and preserving artworks on paper.
Today our collections comprise more than 1,500 pieces, with works by some of the most important artists and illustrators of the 20th century: drawings by Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Kurt Schwitters, Matisse and Egon Schiele, and Picasso’s La Suite Vollard series of engravings.
In 2007, with the acquisition of one of the centerpieces of contemporary photography, The Brown Sisters series by US photographer Nicholas Nixon, our photography collection was created, which now numbers 762 works by 25 photographers. The collection features the most significant group of works in Europe by Paul Strand, one of the most important collections of works by Graciela Iturbide, masters such as Garry Winogrand and Joan Colom, and established contemporary artists such as Fazal Sheikh, Anna Malagrida and Alberto García-Alix.
The main objective of our collections is to facilitate public access to unknown works and artists. To date, more than 180 national and international exhibitions have been curated, with accompanying catalogs published for each one.
