Prevention and Road Safety Prevention and Road Safety

Committed to road safety and accident prevention

Our overriding objective is to raise public awareness of the importance of preventing traffic accidents, through promoting and encouraging responsible driving habits and safe behavior that avoids or reduces accidents, especially those related to fire and road safety. Our efforts are directed towards:

  • Preventing accidents: our actions are aimed at avoiding accidents in the home or during recreational and leisure, as well as the prevention of fires.

  • Road safety: with the objective of preventing traffic accidents and reducing their rates, which are still high, we undertake a great many educational, training and research activities in line with the values of social commitment, cooperation and innovation.

We invest close to 8 million euros to foster safety in our society.

Thanks to the efforts undertaken in recent years, we have become an international benchmark in the sector of accident prevention. We are present  with our programs in 24 countries, in which we undertake a range of activities, chiefly in Spain, Latin America, Portugal, Germany, Philippines, Turkey and Malta.

We participate in prevention and road safety policies

We collaborate actively with government bodies both in Spain and the other countries where we work. In Spain, with the Dirección General de Tráfico de España and the Dirección General de Protección Civil; and outside Spain, wiith Agencias Nacionales de Seguridad Vial, the Secretaría General Iberoamericana, the Observatorio Iberoamericano de Seguridad Vial (OISEVI) and the Organismo de Bomberos Iberoamericanos (OBA).

We are honored to be members, among others, of UNRSC (United Nations Road Safety Collaboration), work group and advisory body of the United Nations in matters of road safety; the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP), an organization that supports Road Safety associations, which are committed to good driving practice in countries and communities throughout the world; Safe Kids Worldwide, a global organization dedicated to protecting children from unintentional injuries, the main cause of infant death in the United States; Latin NCAP, which provides Latin American consumers with independent and impartial safety assessments of new vehicles, and the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), which gives assessment on transport safety to the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Member States of the European Union.

We also collaborate with the various international organizations that set the benchmark in matters of accident prevention and road safety: Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), la Federación Iberoamericana de Asociaciones de Víctimas contra la Violencia Vial, the Johns Hopkins University and the Boston Children'sHospital.

Our actions can prevent accidents

Our mission is to achieve ZERO VICTIMS from accidents and their consequences. To get there we work on different programs to educate, train, inform and raise awareness about prevention and road safety.

We develop our activity by segmenting our target audience into different risk groups: children, young people, adults and the elderly. We also address professional collectives who, because of their activity and social exposure, have an increased level of responsibility in the task of protecting the people around them such as teachers, doctors and companies.

All our actions form part of the "TARGET ZERO" initiative through which we want to make the whole of society aware of the importance of accident prevention and join us in achieving the ambitious objective of zero accident victims.

To reinforce the culture of road safety in society, we engage in specific activities aimed at distinct social segments. Of these, we would highlight Doctors for Road Safety, Child Restraint Systems and Road Safety for Young People. In the field of Road Safety in Companies, we work through our online portal and take part in international congresses on the subject.

With respect to accident prevention, we engage in actions aimed at reducing accidents in the home or while practicing sports and leisure activities:

  • We work in Fire Prevention, organizing activities in Spain and Latin America, in collaboration with Fire Services, so that society is able to recognize the risks of fire and knows how to act in this situation.
  • With regard to the Prevention of Drowning, we roll out annual campaigns with the goal of eliminating drowning from the 10 main causes of death among children and young people worldwide.
  • We also engage in specific activities to prevent accidents among the elderly as part of the "Con mayor cuidado" program (Taking Greater Care).

Educate to prevent

We have been working for over 20 years to bring prevention and road safety to classrooms and families. Our educational program has one overriding objective: to promote the teaching of prevention and road safety in educational centers. To achieve this, we believe the most efficient method is to intervene in improving behavioral habits, placing particular emphasis on the early years of life, the period in which attitudes, values and respect for rules become consolidated.

Our work is altruistic by nature, providing access to all our materials, resources and activities free of charge.

We run educational programs in 24 countries.

We encourage global online training through specialized courses for professionals, exploring agreements with Universities and other training centers.

We develop training programs on road safety for other professional collectives such as doctors through healthcare and teachers through new technologies.

We are also interested in training doctors in accident prevention.

With regard to accident prevention in the workplace, we offer an in-company road safety course involving 13 specific modules according to the risk group involved: commercial drivers, passenger transport, delivery truck drivers, etc.

Tools for dissemination

Our priority lies in making the activities we undertake more effective and with greater dissemination, in order to reach the maximum number of beneficiaries. To achieve this, we use the internet and social networks as the preferred means of running and distributing the programs and activities at both a national and international level.

We maintain an open line of collaboration with road safety experts to undertake studies with the objective of gaining in-depth knowledge on the factors that lead to accidents. The results of these studies have had enormous social repercussions, with some being used as work tools in the highest echelons of European governments.

For these studies, we use as our benchmark the strategic plans of the most important international bodies such as the World Health Organization and the leading equivalent national or regional organizations in each field.

Additionally, we take part as organizers or speakers at seminars and congresses, both nationally and internationally, related to the prevention of accidents and road safety.
