Road Safety

Knowing that we are not alone marks our behavior as drivers of any type of vehicle or as pedestrians. Knowing the rules and taking into account other users are essential principles to follow.

Although respecting coexistence rules applies to everyone, people who use public roads face different situations depending on whether they are in a vehicle or are pedestrians. Here we offer you some tips to follow, according to the type of road user.

When driving, always do so in a rational manner. Before driving, ask yourself if there are any alternatives, such as bicycles or public transport. Respect the most vulnerable users such as pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists or users of other personal mobility vehicles. Keep your vehicle in the best possible condition and take it to pass the MOT according to the dates established by law.

If you are a pedestrian be aware that you are the most vulnerable among those vulnerable and you must be careful not to put yourself in danger. Make yourself visible, especially at night or in low visibility conditions. Pay close attention to garage entrances, respect the traffic lights and always cross at the authorized crossings. On intercity roads always walk on the left side and as far away from the road as possible. Pay attention while walking, avoid using your phone and stop walking if you have to take a call or write a message.

If you ride a bike or use a PMV there is an essential aspect you mustn’t forget: “if it has wheels, wear a helmet”. Equip your vehicle with lights, a bell and reflectors, and always wear light clothing and reflective elements to be seen better. Drive as often as possible in the lanes specially designed for these vehicles and remember that PMVs cannot carry passengers or be driven on sidewalks. When you park on the sidewalk, think about the pedestrians. If riding a bicycle, please note that only one passenger under the age of 7 can be carried and in an approved seat.

All road users have the obligation to respect all traffic rules. If you are going to drive, do not drink alcohol or take other drugs and be aware of speed limits. If you are a pedestrian, stay alert, you can also be fined. And remember, if you’re going to drive or walk around with a mask on, make sure it doesn’t interfere with your field of view.

If we all follow the rules and think of others we will avoid incidents.

Be respectful, there is space fore everyone on public roads.
