The “Hogares Malen” project developed by the Mensajeros de la Paz Association in Longchamps (Buenos Aires), provides real homes to 175 boys and girls who find themselves in situations of vulnerability, abandoned or mistreated, or, for various reasons, in a position in which their nuclear family is unable from time to time to take care of them.

Thanks to the support of Fundación MAPFRE, this NGO has set up three care homes – Pewmafemalén (for girls aged 6 to 13), Rucamalén (for boys and girls up to age 5) and Andalhué (for boys and girls aged 6 to 13.) The NGO works to assure not only the physical well-being of the children, but also their intellectual and psychological health. In these homes, the children’s nutritional and educational needs are looked after, and any nutritional deficiencies are made good. All the while, their social relationships are strengthened and activities are carried out with the children’s families or with the adults who play an important role in the children’s lives, in an effort to establish, repair or maintain the bonds of affection.

Along these lines, the “Hogares Malen” project runs a Family Strengthening Program (PAF) in which interdisciplinary work is coordinated not only with the children’s families, but with the community as well, to avoid other children and young people needing to be institutionalized.

The Mensajeros de la Paz organization has a long history of working with young people, both at the international level and nationally in Argentina, where it has been carrying out projects for the protection of children and adolescents at social risk for the last 16 years.
