Thanks to the work of Mensajeros de la Paz, the youngsters who live at the Malen Homes improve their health, reconstruct their identity and recover their future.

Dropping out of school, nutritional deficiencies, social and family violence, the consumption and abuse of drugs, the breaking up of the family nucleus, child labor, abuse and sexual exploitation. This is the reality of what the children who come to the Malen Homes have been through. The center, for children of any age up to 12 years old, provides them with the home they never had and a space in which to rebuild themselves physically and psychologically.

The task of the professional employees of Mensajeros de la Paz begins with restoring the children’s rights to health, food, education, leisure activities and, most important of all, the right to their identity.

A professional team composed of social workers, psychologists, psychopedagogists, doctors, nutritionists and kitchen, cleaning and maintenance staff support the children 24 hours a day in their physical, psychological and emotional development, respecting at all times the historical and cultural background of each and every child.

Through a variety of workshop activities such as football, volleyball, dance, drawing and cookery, and by using play as a tool, the professional staff of the Mensajeros de la Paz work to reconstruct a world for these children, care for their basic needs and support them in their development.

To prevent the children becoming institutionalized over a long period of time, the association also encourages the social inclusion of their families whenever possible, so that the children can return to them again. In these cases, family support and monitoring work is carried out to avoid a repetition of the situations the children found themselves in the past. In the event that children are unable to rejoin their families, the center tries to find other places with which the children can establish meaningful contacts so that their stay at the center can be as short as possible.

The Malen Homes provides a space of comprehensive care that is essential for enabling the most underprivileged children to make progress.
