Fundaçao Julita, with the support of Fundación MAPFRE, is carrying out the “Community in Movement” project whose aim is to help boys, girls and adolescents in situations of vulnerability, through sports events organized by young beneficiaries of Fundaçao Julita.
These young people recommend activities and services which directly benefit the community, including children, young people and the elderly. The activities are carried out by helpers who work together with the organization, and who take part in the professional qualification projects offered at the center.
With this methodology, Fundaçao Julita is able to create a process which builds upon itself, leading to the involvement of the entire community. The helpers, who voluntarily take charge of carrying out the community activities, receive not only training but also follow-up and tutorials from the Fundaçao as an incentive to going on to college.
Fundaçao Julita was the brainchild of the farmer and coffee producer, Antônio Manoel Alves de Lima. It was founded on December 6, 1951 on an area of land occupying 47,000 square meters. At that time, its main objective was to house the families of migrants in this rural area of the country in cooperatives, in which the families lived, planted and harvested, and learned to read and write. In addition to housing and land for planting, help was even given in education, nourishment, health and professional training.
