Aldeas Infantiles Brasil, with the support of Fundación MAPFRE, has developed the “Sonhar” project which is instrumental in the comprehensive development of 500 young and adolescent people in situations of need, who are searching for training and independence.
“Sonhar” takes care of young people between 15 and 22 years of age in the towns of João Pessoa, Caicó y Araçoiaba and focuses on three areas: education, vocational training , and training in life skills.
In the area of education, the project encourages development and success in conventional education, making sure that the students develop an interest in their studies. At the outset, each student’s situation is analyzed, in consultation with their schools.
Another focus of the project is the stimulation and discovery of aptitudes for in-work training and preparation for starting a business.
Life skills training is carried out in groups which exchange experiences on topics such as life projects and planning, the environment, a healthy lifestyle, nutrition and leadership.
Currently Aldeias Infantis SOS Brasil is carrying out 23 programs in 12 Brazilian states. These care for close to 5,000 children, adolescents and young people in situations of need, and focus on two areas: foster care, for which it has 89 houses, and the strengthening of family and community ties, with 17 projects being developed at present.
