Education for children and young people from the slums of the Dominican Republic Education for children and young people from the slums of the Dominican Republic

The Nuevos Caminos NGO is developing an educational program for children and young people in the slums of Sabana Yegua and Azua. The aim of the project, which counts on the support of Fundación MAPFRE is to provide a chance for the future to those most in need through education.

The program offers help in two ways: one is by granting scholarships to children to attend private schools in Sabana Yegua or Azua, and the other is by providing economic support to young people studying at college, to cover the cost of their studies and transportation.

The primary school students with scholarships attend the Salome Urena private school in Sabana Yegua and the secondary students attend the private schools of San Jose and Buen Pastor in Azua or the polytechnic in Sabana Yegua.

Nuevos Caminos is a Spanish NGO which has been committed to developing communities where it has a presence in Latin American and African countries for 35 years. Its aim is to work in communities lacking social and economic resources, in order to generate opportunities so that people can build themselves a better future.
