The Fundación CMR --Comedor Santa María, with the support of Fundacion MAPFRE, is carrying out the “Feed a Child” program which offers nutritional care and human development training to 230 boys and girls from 4 months to 16 years old, and to women who are pregnant or breast-feeding, all living in conditions of extreme poverty in the community of Hornos in Mexico City.
Regarding nutrition, the Fundación CMR offers a daily meal approved by nutritionists, which represents 65% of the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI). The project also monitors the development of the boys and girls, carrying out check-ups every 4 months for height and weight, and a yearly blood analysis.
The “Educate in Freedom” project is also part of the program. Its aim is to empower the children and help them understand what constitutes good decision-making, based on universal values. In addition, the project works on developing the social abilities of the girls and boys, and on developing the family union in conversations with the mothers and fathers.
