The Hogares Teresa Toda Association looks after 25 young and adolescent girls between 6 and 17 years of age who reside in the Center located in the municipality of Loiza, providing them with a safe environment that allows them to grow academically, socially and personally. The project, which is supported by Fundación MAPFRE, places particular emphasis on the education of the children to prevent school dropout.
The majority of residents are vulnerable young or adolescent girls who are either homeless or have suffered abuse. Hogares Teresa Toda takes them in to offer them a new opportunity, providing the education needed to prepare them for a responsible and constructive life. Through tutoring, they work on study skills and memory development, in order to improve their academic performance in subjects such as Spanish, English, mathematics, science and social studies.
At the Center, in addition to education, the children receive comprehensive service in which special care is placed on improving their emotional side, their self-esteem and self-confidence, so that they may flourish in society as self-confident people, far from any obstacles which halt their personal development.
