Fundación Los Pinos is working to reduce school dropout among children and vulnerable adolescents in Barrio Casavalle in Montevideo, Uruguay. Fundacion MAPFRE has been supporting this project since 2011 with the aim of improving opportunities for these youngsters.
This collaboration makes it possible to attend to 194 young people through educational support at primary and secondary levels, professional training, life skills and employability programs.
The project, named “An option for the youth of Casavalle,” also carries out individual monitoring of each student. Fundación Los Pinos considers it essential to form a strong relationship with the students’ families, to help create a favorable base for developing a desire for self-improvement, self-esteem and social skills.
Casavalle is one of the most depressed areas in Uruguay. The high level of poverty gives rise to situations ranging from lack of employment to social structure situations of difficult solution in the short and medium term.
Fundación Los Pinos was set up in 2016 following years of becoming established under the auspices of the Asociación Cultural y Técnica. The aim of the organization is to improve the living condition of the children and young people of the most disadvantaged areas, through the promotion, construction, administration and management of educational centers, whether they be conventional or non-conventional.
