Since 2015, Fundación Maria Luisa Casar, with the support of Fundación MAPFRE, has been striving to achieve literacy among children at risk of exclusion in the 24 de marzo neighborhood and its surrounding areas, in Caracas.

The project organizes the inclusion of the children into the “Regular Education System,” and provides them with nutritious and varied meals in a school canteen, as well as appropriate health care.

To find out the children’s level of nutrition, the project carries out anthropometric analyses, determines whether any parasites have been eradicated, and carries out other tests to evaluate the youngsters’ state of health.

Nutrition is important and the Fundación Maria Luis Casar is responsible for feeding these children, offering them breakfasts and lunches which meet all the requirements of a balanced diet. The project also manages their preschool and primary education.

The main objectives of this initiative are to achieve literacy among the children, reduce the level of their malnutrition, improve their academic performance, and create an awareness of healthy eating and of how illnesses might be prevented.
