According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four people in the world has had, has or will have a mental health problem in their lifetime. Everything points to the fact that by the year 2030 mental disorders will be the leading cause of disability worldwide. This situation, further aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, necessitates urgent action.

At Fundación MAPFRE, through our Together We Can Program, we strive for the social and occupational advancement of people with intellectual disabilities, offering them the necessary support and raising society’s awareness of the importance of detecting, managing and treating mental health problems. And we are not alone on this journey, we are assisted by associations and organizations that work hard every day to improve the inclusion and quality of life of these people and their families.

In the Mentally prepared for mental health exhibition we have brought together nine of these associations to put the spotlight on the issue of mental health and to call on society to eliminate prejudices. Together we can ensure that mental health is treated responsibly and with respect.

There is still a long way to go to achieve the complete employment integration of people with either intellectual disabilities or mental health problems, but we must not forget how far we have come and the significant progress we have already made. This has been possible thanks to the work of organizations and associations that dedicate their efforts to making access to the world of work a reality for these individuals.

So that you can share in the achievements and understand the needs of these organizations, in this exhibition we introduce some of them to you, in a very visual and explanatory way. In addition, we invite you to find out more about our program Juntos Somos Capaces [Together We Can], which, since its launch more than 12 years ago, has helped more than 5,100 people to find employment, thanks to the collaboration of more than 6,000 companies, 776 social entities and 242 business associations.
