Descripción

Pepita en la Quinta de Chor is part of a series of drawings produced by Nicanor Piñole during the summer holidays at his family’s estate located between Gijón and Avilés. These works on modest paper were not conceived to be on display in public. In them the artist put his ability to capture color and light variations within the environment to the test; they were a distraction and an experiment.

The figure that appears in the drawing is one of the artist’s cousins, Pepita Prendes. Sitting under a tree in the garden, her figure is drawn with a rigid and restrained stroke and displays a collected attitude and demure. It contrasts with the chromatic array and the liveliness of the impressionist background: the green grass, the mauve and violet hues of the bush, the blue sky, all full of sentiment and light.
