We want the highest possible number of people know how to save someone's life in the event of them choking. With the assistance and collaboration of SEMES and FACYRE, the objective for 2017 is to get to over 6,500 training sessions in different restaurants to teach all professionals in the gastronomy sector about how to respond if an obstruction occurs.
Additionally, the S.O.S. Respira campaign will undertake activities out in the street and in shopping malls aimed at ensuring that around 15,000 people acquire the necessary knowledge.
Since the campaign was launched in June 2016, over 28,000 people have been trained thanks to the S.O.S. Respira campaign at both user and professional level.
Throughout 2017 we will be continuing with the following activities:
- Visits to different hospitality industry and restaurant establishments in numerous Spanish cities. The guidelines on what action to take in the event of someone choking will be taught by healthcare professionals, workers and technicians trained by SEMES.
- Training courses for associations and schools in the hospitality industry sphere: The S.O.S Respira campaign, provides the opportunity to train any present or future hospitality and restaurant industry professionals in the basic knowledge required in order to know what to do if someone is choking.
- Agreements with leading renowned hospitality industry and restaurant chains with the objective of raising the profile of the campaign and increasing the number of users with knowledge of the techniques.
- Spreading the word about the S.O.S. Respira campaign through the various Michelin star restaurants in Spain's major cities and organizing launch ceremonies and events so people get to know about the S.O.S Respira campaign.
Fundación MAPFRE is continuing with these training sessions throughout 2017 traveling around cities including Madrid, Asturias, Pontevedra, Zaragoza, Valencia, Alicante, Seville and others.
