Impressionism

This catalog reviews the history of Impressionism – the most important modern art movement – through some of the masterpieces belonging to the Musée d’Orsay, by artists such as Manet, Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro and Cézanne, among others. Impressionism laid the stepping stones to modernity, though the movement did not entail a radical break with traditional art; in fact, quite the opposite. In the 1870s, Impressionism, Academic art, Decorative art and Symbolism all coexisted harmoniously in Paris, and this stylistic wealth is reflected in this catalog to even further highlight the triumph of new art forms.
