Relive the event commemorating our 50th anniversary

We invite you to enjoy the best moments.

“We focus on social issues because, unfortunately, these are the most pressing concerns in today’s world, but our commitment to people and their environments is much broader. We are also a benchmark in other areas, such as promoting healthy habits, accident prevention and road safety, financial and insurance literacy, art and culture outreach, scientific and medical research, social innovation, improving the living conditions of the elderly and, more recently, we have also become one of the few Spanish entities authorized to manage European Social Fund programs aimed at Spain’s less populated areas”.

Antonio Huertas
President of Fundación MAPFRE

For our 50th anniversary, we brought together Fundación MAPFRE’s extended family

Over the course of fifty years, we have been so much more than just a social organization; we have been a meeting point for many people who have needed support, a listening ear, and the opportunity to transform their lives. And also a place for those people who have decided to dedicate their efforts and time to improving the world, and for everyone who believes in the importance of the common good and the well-being of people everywhere.

Together with all of them, we looked back on the journey we have been on together.

In an emotional ceremony, we celebrated the fact that, since 1975, we have been promoting social action, safety, health, culture, education, and research in more than 30 countries.

Inclusion

Over the last 50 years, we have been guided by a single goal: to break the cycle of poverty and promote comprehensive education. Thanks to collaborations with various social organizations that work alongside the most vulnerable people, we have impacted the lives of millions of individuals. Each case, each door we have opened, each opportunity we have seized, encourages us to keep going today.

“At Pato Amarillo, everyone who knocked on the door did so because they were hungry. And they were given what I was given.”

Pilar Aural
President of Asociación Pato Amarillo,
which has been working with Fundación MAPFRE for decades.

“The greatest impact is generated when families feel recognized and valued, because through this support and assistance we are sending them a message of solidarity and hope. Because we are telling them: we do care about what is happening to you, we do care about your future.”

Luis Padilla
President of Asociación Manabí which Fundación MAPFRE has been collaborating with since 2016.

Culture

Over the past five decades, we have also demonstrated a strong commitment to culture.

Initially, our goal was to revive artistic modernity in Spain through exhibitions featuring prominent artists.

In 2009, we went one step further by embracing photography, an area that, in 2020, materialized with the opening in Barcelona of the KBr Center, a space dedicated exclusively to this discipline.

Education

Among the initiatives we are most proud of are our educational programs, which are run in 30 countries. These programs are tools for life, because they range from accident prevention and road safety to health promotion and financial education. A comprehensive educational catalog with a significant impact.

Our commitment to education has demonstrated our ongoing pledge to society, always with an overriding goal: to build a more humane future.

“We have been able to stop one patient from self-catheterizing and another from taking opiates because their neuropathic pain can now be controlled using paracetamol. Their quality of life has improved beyond belief.”

Mercedes Zurita
Researcher and head of the Cell Therapy Unit in the Neurosurgery Department at Hospital Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, a project that Fundación MAPFRE has been supporting for 25 years.

“Private collaboration in research is essential because there are certain aspects of research that are not covered by grants, specifically scientific material, and especially the latest technology.”

Doctor Valentín Fuster
General Director of the Carlos III National Cardiovascular Research Center (CNIC) in Madrid and Director of the Mount Sinai Fuster Heart Cardiovascular Institute in New York. Fundación MAPFRE has been supporting the CNIC through the Fundación Pro CNIC since 2013

Research

Since the beginning, we have supported research in Spain and Latin America through funding, grants, and aid for researchers and projects. Ongoing support for scientific initiatives such as the Cell Therapy for Spinal Cord Injury program, which achieved approval for NC1, the first non-industrial drug for spinal cord injuries; the project on therapies for early stages of Parkinson’s disease, led by Fundación de Investigación HM Hospitales; and joint work with Fundación Pro CNIC to improve cardiovascular health in society.

Solidarity

Our volunteers play, and have always played, an essential role in our extended family. They are our driving force and our role models.

That is why they could not miss out on this event, which was also a tribute to their work. The Fundación MAPFRE volunteers who took part in the relief efforts following the disaster caused by the DANA flooding, the next generations of committed young people… they all dedicate their time and effort to others, in the belief that every action makes a difference.

“While we were volunteering, we gave it everything we had: our time, our energy, our empathy. But what we didn’t expect was that we would get so much back. Every smile, every hug, every moment shared with them transformed us.”

Gemma
Participant in the 1st Fundación MAPFRE International Volunteer Program who traveled to the Dominican Republic to collaborate on the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos project.

“My experience as a volunteer has transformed me tremendously. First of all, as a person, you learn to appreciate the fact that material things aren’t important. And what I value most right now is the impact you have on other people.”

Gabriel
A victim of the DANA flooding, he threw himself into helping others, managing, through Fundación Altius, part of the aid that Fundación MAPFRE allocated to the victims.
