Portrait of an older man with gray hair and wrinkled skin, sporting a gentle smile while sitting. He's wearing a red T-shirt, a light blue collared shirt, and a beige sweater, with a detail of an open book partially visible on his right side. He's looking toward the camera with a calm and relaxed expression, his hands clasped in front of him.

We live in a hectic world, where time slips away without us even noticing. Obligations and leisure activities fill our schedules, and in the midst of this frenzy, we forget to stop and reflect on what we are doing and where we are going.

In this environment, more and more philosophers, writers, and thinkers, aware of the importance of looking inward, invite us to stop, take a breath, and start making conscious decisions to direct our lives.

One of these key figures is José Antonio Marina, who we had the pleasure of talking to about well-being and ageing at the 6th Academic Seminar 2025. Emotional well-being and quality of life for the new longevity, organized by our Ageingnomics Research Center.

Understanding ourselves better, as well as giving deeper meaning to our actions, helps us learn that growing older is part of learning about life, and that taking care of our physical and emotional health allows us to age with memory and purpose.

Marina reminds us that true happiness means taking care of ourselves and others, having plans, continuing to learn, and maintaining an emotional balance. Only then does longevity become an opportunity to enjoy life consciously and to the full.
