In the 1930s, on the streets of New York, when there were no cell phones and children played outdoors, Helen Levitt captured life as it unfolded before her eyes.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, on the west coast of the United States, Edward Weston discovered that a photograph could be as expressive as a painting or a sculpture. With his camera, he captured the beauty, ugliness, and abstraction hidden in different objects. A pepper and a shell thereby attained symbolic status.
Both masters, from different places and times, taught us to look. To pause. To discover that photography is not just an image, but a way of listening, of perceiving the world.
In this showcase, the exhibition Flama’25 brings together four young artists: Bernat Erra, Irina Cervelló, Abril Coudougnan, and Patrick Martin, who understand photography as a means of communication. Their works engage in dialogue with memory, with the intimate and the collective, and propose a new approach to observation that perceives time and dwells on nuance.
From the great masters to new perspectives, the exhibitions that can be enjoyed in our galleries in Madrid and Barcelona invite you to experiment and discover.
In addition, to mark our 50th anniversary on November 5, admission to our exhibitions will be free between November 3 and 9.
If you are looking for a new way to view and experience photography, book your ticket now. And if there is no availability online, come directly to our galleries; half of the admissions will be available at the ticket office.
