Road Safety

27 years have passed since the first time this day was marked, at that time under the umbrella of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR).

Every third Sunday in November, we light a candle for the lives lost on the roads as a result of recklessness. Because road traffic accidents are recklessness, carelessness, loss of control at the wheel, which result in death, pain and absence.

Each single accident at the wheel is an event with a ripple effect. Families, friends, loved ones. We are all stunned when we are told the news. We all somehow think that it can’t happen to us, until it does.

We should turn our remembrance and tribute into active protest. Let’s keep on raising awareness, encouraging vigilance, helping people to understand that we are all involved in this problem, and therefore that the solution is the responsibility of each and every one of us.

Think about it. That person behind the wheel is you, your partner, your child, your friend. And you are also that badly injured person who is impacted by recklessness.

A day of remembrance for all the victims so that in the future it will no longer be necessary. Another day of remembrance so that in the time to come, we will not have to think back. Because there will no longer be any need to remember.
