ConVive Rural: connecting regions, care, and rights

Group of people providing and sharing food outdoors in a rural setting, surrounded by fields and nature, promoting community.

ConVive Rural seeks to transform how people with physical and functional disabilities live in rural areas, guaranteeing their right to an independent and self-sufficient life without being forced to leave their villages or enter institutions. It is based on a comprehensive model that combines personal assistance, accessible transitional housing, professional support for individuals and families, specialized training, assistive technologies such as robotics and smart systems, and community awareness. Everything is based on a person-centered philosophy, with a gender perspective, universal accessibility and adaptation to the local area.

The project is aimed at people with physical and functional disabilities in rural areas, who have historically been invisible and neglected. It covers all ages: from children to the elderly.  Priority is given to the most vulnerable: people at risk of institutionalization, with high degrees of dependency, women facing multiple forms of discrimination, people isolated due to remote geographical locations, people without a family support network, and those facing sudden disability without resources.

The aim is for each participant to improve their personal independence, emotional well-being and decision-making capacity, regaining control over their daily lives and actively participating in their community. The impact extends to families—alleviating the burden of care—and the region, generating skilled employment—especially for women—strengthening mutual support networks and reducing inequalities between rural and urban areas. In the long term, it promotes structural change: from a welfare-based, institutionalized model to a personalized, accessible model rooted in the human rights of people with disabilities.
