Digital Empowerment and Rural Repopulation: Integrating AI and AWS re/Start in Vulnerable Rural Areas

Fundación Altius is spearheading the project “Empoderamiento Digital y Repoblación Rural” (Digital Empowerment and Rural Repopulation), an initiative aimed at improving employability, social inclusion, and retaining the populations of vulnerable rural areas in the provinces of Valencia and Ávila. The project’s main goal is to provide social and workforce integration pathways linked to emerging job opportunities, particularly in the digital and artificial intelligence sectors, helping to reduce territorial and gender gaps.

The initiative targets unemployed individuals in rural areas, focusing particularly on women and young people, resettling families, and helping individuals at risk of social exclusion in municipalities affected by depopulation and, in some cases, by the DANA storm. By training people in digital skills, technological literacy, and the development of AI-based solutions applied to sectors like agriculture, rural tourism, and environmental management, the project seeks to generate real employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

The plan is to train 165 individuals, create at least 60 direct jobs, and develop technological solutions that revitalize local assets, promoting a sustainable and scalable rural development model aligned with Spain’s Digital Agenda and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
