In each of the revolutions addressed in this publication, and which were the subject of study in the lecture series Photography Speaks of Revolutions, held at our KBr Photography Center, photography played one or more significant roles as a witness, critic, tool for agitation, explicit or covert propaganda, instrument of social analysis, territory for the photographer’s commitment, prolongation of the revolutionary experience, and so forth.
Under the direction of photography historian Laura Terré (University of Barcelona), the aim of this initiative was to confront us once again with the role photography plays in explaining the world, this time through specific and transcendental historical junctures in the contemporary world.
