Notes for a white paper on fire prevention

This work is intended to be the reference document for people who work in, are involved in, and concerned with fire prevention and its consequences. But it is also a guide for people who are interested in avoiding risks and increasing their safety.

The objective is twofold: firstly, to recognize all the progress made in recent decades and, in particular, the tireless work of countless professionals, especially firefighters, who dedicate their lives to protecting the lives of others. Secondly, to help increase awareness of fire prevention and its consequences and, to this end, to propose a series of effective actions to be reinforced or implemented in the coming years.

The recommendations contained in this publication cover all the key areas and topics in this field: those related to raising awareness and educating society, the collection and analysis of statistics, prevention services, the importance of using fire detectors and automatic sprinklers, the fundamental role of property managers, the challenges to fire safety posed by the energy transition, the protection of public buildings, innovation, international cooperation and, of course, home safety, as this is where between 75% and 80% of fatalities occur in Spain.
