Current Project

The Hogar Colibríes under the Mensajeros de la Paz association, offers personalized attention to children between 6 and 12 years of age in vulnerable situations in the town of Longchamps (Buenos Aires, Argentina). This Home mainly takes in siblings whose rights have been denied and come from situations of family abandonment, mistreatment or those who temporarily have no adults to take care of them to guarantee their basic needs.

The Home works as a kind of containment dyke. While protecting these children, the home works with them to restore their rights and dignity and establish strategies to strengthen their social relationships to reconnect them with the community.

A team of doctors, psychologists, social workers, educators and teachers works in this community space to offer health care, cultural and educational activities, workshops on conflict resolution, sports workshops, etc..

The aim is to prevent these children from being unnecessarily institutionalized. Mensajeros de la Paz considers the best place for a child is with his or her family: staying at Hogar Colibríes is seen as a temporary alternative in situations where the child needs to be away from dysfunctional families or in circumstances that put their lives at risk.

At Fundación MAPFRE we support this initiative whose beneficiaries are referred by government agencies. These agencies also establish measures to protect the rights of children who come to the Home.

In addition to the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires and the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, there is a whole community network involved in this initiative: schools, universities and volunteers in the region are determined that these children regain their rights, dignity and hope for their future.
