Through the “Un Rayo de Luz para Cañazas y Ñurum” program, the Asociación Pro Niñez Panameña provides food, education, recreational activities and healthcare to 7,500 boys and girls from 75 educational centers in Panama.

This project, which is supported by Fundación MAPFRE, has been working since 2000 to improve the quality of life of children at risk of exclusion and their families in Cañazas y Ñurum.

Providing food in order to make lunch in the schools, teaching about school nutrition and delivering meals for low-income families are some of the measures that the organization carries out. In addition, it includes a school gardens projectwhere the students plant fruits and vegetable to include in the meals sent to families.

It also works to make technology accessible to children by using these technological resources in their teaching techniques and they also offer scholarships to encourage students to stay in school.

In terms of their health policies, Pro Niñez Panameña has set up a medical clinic which serves 2000 people and includes a nurse providing emergency care as well as a dental care service.

Founded in 1981, the Pro Niñez Panameña association is fully committed to children's development with programs aimed at improving education, diet, healthcare and play in homes, canteens, difficult to access schools and a model school.
