CEFEC: Educational space in Brazil

CEFEC is one of the social initiatives run by the Congregación Católica de las Hermanas de la Providencia. This center works with the younger population of Santa Rita, specifically in the Marcos Moura neighborhood. The area is considered an industrial center which, despite being located very close to the big city, is badly neglected by the authorities. There are high rates of school dropout, illiteracy, drug trafficking, citizen insecurity and a serious lack of sanitation, as well as high homicide rates among the adolescent population.

For this reason, much of CEFEC’s work is based on making children and young people aware of their rights and, at the same time, of the responsibilities they are able to exercise to transform their lives and the lives of those around them, safely, in an educational environment in Brazil.

Community learning environment in Brazil

The Community Learning Center directs its work mainly through two programs: Professional Education and Qualification; and Out-of-School Learning through which human and cultural training is offered, as well as training related to performing professional activities.  The center also provides psychological support.

Many of the young people supported by CEFEC have successfully entered the job market and have themselves become employers.
