Ensuring a child’s right to grow up within their family
The Asociación de Hogares Nuevo Futuro works to ensure that the families in Chorrillos in Lima are not neglecting their children
Current Project
Violence often prevails in many of the families in Chorrillos. The parents have had very little education and the mothers are having to take care of a lot of children. A lack of formal education and living in a marginalized environment with food shortages, poor sanitation and surrounded by drugs and conflict means that emotional and physical violence between parents and towards their children has become normalized.
The Asociación de Hogares Nuevo Futuro attempts to reduce the violence being inflicted on children through two programs.
The “Semillas. Aprendiendo en familia” (Seeds. Learning within the family) project seeks to rebalance the social and emotional ties of at-risk families. In order to do so, meetings and interviews are arranged, including a follow-up to check that the beneficiary families are developing suitable strategies for caring for and bringing up their children. School teachers also get involved in the program so that the schools themselves are also educating the children on values.
The “Acercándonos. Formando Formadores” (Getting closer. Training Trainers) project, through diverse workshops and activities, seeks to train leaders and change agents in educational institutions. The young beneficiaries of the project will gain all the necessary skills: self-esteem, responsibility, self control, motivation, empathy and social skills, in order to work within their families and their communities with the goal of changing their reality.
As a result of this project, 1336 children, young people and their families will get the chance to live in a balanced family environment where children can develop and flourish.
