On 30 October, the Fundación Ignacio Larramendi, Fundación MAPFRE and the Spanish Royal Academy of Doctors, presented the Novatores Virtual Library.

During the 17th century and the early decades of the 18th century in Spain, following an intense period of exploration work, studies and technological breakthroughs, the significance of philosophy and science in society suffered a sharp decline. In the midst of the country’s intellectual stagnation, a handful of scientists and philosophers decided to reintroduce the importance of science and philosophy into Spanish society, at a time when the conditions were far from favorable. They are now known as the novatores and we have dedicated this virtual library to them and have made this resource available for the general public as of today.

The Novatores Virtual Library has a next generation library management system which provides open access to digitized works housed in different libraries throughout Europe and America through EUROPEANA and the DPLA. In addition to making it easier for scholars to carry out their work, this system also brings works of great beauty that were responsible for the flourishing of enlightenment science within the reach of non-specialized readers who would otherwise be unable to access them.

The site was produced by DIGIBÍS, a Spanish company specialized in software development and which forms part of the Ignacio Larramendi Polygraphs Librarya global leader in bibliographical information.
