Considered one of the most important art-historical testimonies of the 20th century, the Vollard Suite is one of the painter’s greatest works, in which he brings together contradictory elements to reflect the harmony of classicism in an era marked by expressionism: harmony of forms and disfigurement or, in short, the two faces of the classical tradition: the Apollonian and the Dionysian.
This Fundación MAPFRE Collections publication includes copies of all the plates that make up the series that Pablo Picasso produced between September 13, 1930 and March 1937, commissioned by the art dealer and publisher Ambroise Vollard. It also includes texts by Rocío Robles and Leyre Bozal Chamorro, as well as a chronology of the period in which Picasso etched the series.
