Mano Amiga de Chalco provides high quality education for underprivileged children

The Valle de Chalco Solidaridad was a farming community but over the years and with the arrival of several waves of migration it now has almost 500 inhabitants living there.
A lack of training, and consequently of decent employment for the vast majority of the adults living here (most of the work is in informal trade) means that they have to deal with an unstable situation where crime, drugs and violence are rife.
To try to change this situation and break the poverty cycle handed down from parents to children, Mano Amiga provides students with a comprehensive high quality education. Their goal is for students to gain academic training and personal development through universal values that enable them to develop intellectually, as well as in sports and in morals in order to create positive leadership.
Their teaching method involving teamwork and individual development seeks to help the students develop the skills needed to face life successfully. In order for the students to aspire to goals beyond their daily routine they also organize inter-school competitions and take part in the National Olympics in several disciplines.
Through a human-focused, intellectual training which instills values in the students, leaders can emerge who can fight against the marginalization of their communities. Valle de Chalco Solidaridad is proof of this. Up until now, 15 generations of students have completed their high school IT technician studies. For these young people the future is brimming with opportunities.
