The Pro Panamanian Childhood Association, together with Fundación MAPFRE, provides food, schooling, health care, recreational activities and teacher training in the schools of Alto Ibala, Los Guarumos, Mojarras and Cerro Plata in the district of Cañazas and Ñurum, through, “A ray of light for Cañazas and Ñurum” program.
Thanks to this initiative, students receive complete daily meals as the main tool to combat truancy, as well as school materials (notebooks, pens, pencils, rain slickers, toothbrushes and books.) Additionally, they are looked after through medical programs and participate in excursions and recreational activities on special days.
The most important factor of this project is teacher training. Through the “Reading from A to Z” program, the project has achieved improvement in the teaching techniques of teachers, whose initial training is aimed at improving the reading and comprehension levels of their students.
Founded in 1981, the Pro Panamanian Childhood Association is one of the institutions most committed to the comprehensive development of children with a model school and programs directed to improving education, diet, health and recreation in homes, canteens and schools with difficult access.
