Recoletos Exhibition Hall (Madrid)

Coming from a humble rural background, Swedish artist Anders Zorn (1860-1920) achieved international fame as a portraitist of kings, politicians, and other celebrities of his time.

This exhibition presents a comprehensive overview of his work, a long and rich career in which his interest in portraying both the features of modernity and scenes characteristic of traditional life in his native region complemented his work as a portraitist.

Recoletos Exhibition Hall (Madrid)

Helen Levitt (1913–2009) began photographing her native New York in the late 1930s, capturing images that reflected life in the poorest neighborhoods and, in particular, children and their street games. She did so with a special instinct for conveying the emotion, mystery, and humor contained in those childhood scenes.

Her work soon received the recognition it deserved, and in 1943 the Museum of Modern Art in New York organized her first solo exhibition. Deeply committed to social causes, Levitt was one of the first women to carve out a professional path in photography. The nearly 200 photographs featured in this exhibition offer a comprehensive journey through her entire career.

  • During the exhibition (at the times indicated below), our mediation team will be present in the room to offer visitors who request it a brief explanation (approx. 10-15 min.) of the most relevant artistic, historical, and other aspects of the exhibition. The commented tour will be in Spanish.
  • Hours:
    • UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30: Wednesdays and Thursdays: 5pm to 8pm; Fridays and Saturdays: 12pm to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm; Sundays and public holidays: 12pm to 2pm.
    • FROM OCTOBER 1: Wednesdays and Thursdays: 4pm to 7pm; Fridays and Saturdays: 12pm to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm; Sundays and holidays: 12pm to 2pm.

  • Cultural mediation is one of the most dynamic and effective instruments used by Museums to provide their visitors a better understanding of exhibitions.
  • During the exhibition (at the times indicated below), our mediation team will be present in the gallery to offer visitors who request it a brief explanation (approximately 10–15 minutes) about the most relevant artistic, historical, and other aspects of the exhibition.
  • Hours: Wednesdays and Thursdays: 5:00-8:00 pm; Fridays and Saturdays: 12:00-2:00 pm and 5:00-8:00 pm; Sundays and Holidays: 12:00-2:00 pm.
  • No additional cost upon ticket. Information at reception desk.

MAPFRE Clients

  • MAPFRE offers to its policyholders 2 free tickets (4 if Platinum Client) for each exhibition season.   • On a tour lasting approximately one hour, our cultural mediators present the main pieces of the exhibition, offering participants aesthetic and historical insights to deepen their understanding of Raimundo de Madrazo and his significance.
  • Price: €7. The ticket also allows to visit Edward Weston. The Matter of Shapes.
  • Hours: TUESDAY to FRIDAY: 12:30 and 17:30 pm. SUNDAYS: 16:30 and 17:30 pm. Groups consist of a maximum of 14 people. Approximate duration: 60 minutes.
  • IMPORTANT: The visit is carried out in Spanish with an audio-guided system. No translation into english is offered. Disposable headphones are provided, but for sustainability reasons we recommend you to bring your own headphones.
