The Nuevos Caminos NGO is developing an educational program for children and young people in the slums of Sabana Yegua and Azua. The aim of the project, which counts on the support of Fundacion MAPFRE is, through education, to provide a chance for the future to those most in need.
The program offers help in two ways: one is by granting scholarships to children to attend private schools in Sabana Yegua or Azua, and the other is by providing economic support to young people studying at college, to cover the cost of their studies and transport.
The primary school students with scholarships attend the Salome Ureña private school in Sabana Yegua while the secondary students attend the private schools of San Jose and Buen Pastor in Azua or the polytechnic in Sabana Yegua. 38 children have benefitted from this project, the final objective being to foster their education as a tool for change and for the advancement of the community.
Nuevos Caminos is a Spanish NGO which has been committed for 35 years to developing communities where it has a presence in Latin American and African countries. Its aim is to work in communities lacking social and economic resources, in order to generate opportunities so that people can build themselves a better future.
