This scene represents a cuadrilla of bullfighters who are getting ready to enter the ring. One of the bullfighters adjusts his montera, while in the foreground we see another figure in an introspective stance: with one hand he holds the montera and with the other he keeps the two ends of his capote joined, enveloping him from his shoulder to his waist.

Vázquez Díaz made a preparatory drawing for this painting on a grid, allowing him to easily transfer the scene onto the canvas, which was larger than the paper, and maintain the proportions of the figures.
