Sculpture different parts of a body and combine them as you like!

Sculpture different parts of a body and combine them as you like!

This week, we’re going to tell you more interesting stories about the lives of these two great artists.

When working in their respective workshops, Rodin and Giacometti saw something special in things that other sculptors didn’t consider important. For example: an unfinished figure, a sculpture that had gone wrong, a broken piece… Sometimes, the two artists realized these pieces could be more expressive than a complete and finished work of art. There are also flashes of beauty in fragments and imperfections.

Did you know…?

Rodin worked on the body parts of many of his works “separately”. If the head was fundamental in a sculpture, he made several versions of that head, and so on with other parts of the body. You can see for yourself in these images: the head belongs to a sculpture that broke and the torso is a version of the sculpture The Walking Man.

Our proposal

Now that you’ve tried modeling, create pieces of sculptures that you can combine as you wish. Make more than one version of different body parts: heads, arms, feet, torsos… Once you have them all, sort them by type and create your figures as you like!

You can also draw different parts of the body on a piece of paper. Draw, color, cut out and … put them together with lots of imagination!

Don’t forget to give your work of art a title!
