The Fundación Sor Dominga Bocca carries out the “Working for a future” project with the support of Fundación MAPFRE, by which 25 young and adolescent girls, who have suffered mistreatment, psychological, physical and sexual abuse, are housed in their shelter. Thanks to this program the young people receive housing, health care, a balanced diet, academic education and school supplies with the aim of ensuring their correct development.

Among the activities carried out with this initiative are individual and group therapies, workshops and talks, training for the girls’ families, the volunteers and the Fundación staff. The idea is to create spaces which help channel communication and to manage the pyscho-affective effects generated by abuse and mistreatment. By working on their self-esteem, these girls can become psychologically and emotionally healthy people and able positively to reintegrate into society.

The Fundación Sor Dominga Bocca is a non-profit organization which began its work on July 1, 1997, in the city of Guayaquil, with young and adolescent girls who had been rescued from severely problematic homes. The girls are offered a suitable environment to take care of their needs for protection and to facilitate their comprehensive development in order to improve, strengthen and restore family ties, while the situation which motivated their institutional foster care is resolved.
