Mano Amiga de Chalco is an educational center carrying out the “Education for the children of the Valle de Chalco Solidaridad” project in the suburbs of Mexico City. This deprived neighborhood started as an irregular settlement more than 40 years ago and still lacks basic services. Here, the association provides comprehensive education to 940 children and young people at risk of social exclusion.
Fundación MAFPRE has collaborated with this initiative for nine years supporting various volunteers, scholarships and teacher training and helping alumni. The project is based on educational programs which break the vicious circle of poverty and marginalization and provide the children and young people with the level of education needed to help them face the future with optimism.
The Mano Amiga de Chalco school has been working in the Valle de Chalco Solidaridad for 23 years where it has seen more than 14,800 children and young people from age three to eighteen pass through its classrooms.
