The Turkish Education Foundation (TEV, in Turkish) is carrying out, with the support of Fundación MAPFRE, the Scholarships Project for university students, by which 35 young people between the ages of 18 and 21, among whom ten are disabled, receive scholarships of 4,500 Turkish lira (1,172 euros) per student for the 2016-2017 academic year.
This initiative aims to award scholarships to academically successful students who need financial aid. The young beneficiaries are selected by scholarship committees created by their own educational institution and which include one representative of TEV. In addition to the students selected by the educational institutions, a quota of scholarships is reserved for disabled students.
The Turkish Education Foundation was founded in 1967 under the leadership of Vehbi Koç, together with a group of 205 benefactors determined to sponsor better education. Their goal is that young Turks who so wish, but who lack the necessary financial means, will be able to study in order to promote a more fair and equitable society.
