The Grandes Amigos (Great Friends) Foundation is certain that offering emotional support to elderly people who live alone or feel lonely can prevent them from becoming isolated from society and improves their quality of life. Many volunteers work for them.
Sometimes we don't choose loneliness. With your help we will promote the integration and social participation of our elderly people.
Hundreds of thousands of elderly people spend every day alone. This isolation is detrimental to their psychological well-being. Grandes Amigos Foundation works to offer company and care and to help them continue to feel like active participants in our society.
With your help we have achieved 729 elderly people who are isolated and lonely to receive active company and to participate in activities organized by the foundation in order to provide them with a distraction and opportunities for leisure time and conversation.
The foundation includes volunteers who take part in a program to accompany people, which organizes weekly visits to the homes or residencies of lonely elderly people.
However, the Grandes Amigos Foundation's goal is even bigger than this given that they also seek to offer elderly people the opportunity to meet others and to be entertained. Out of this idea the “Espacios de ocio y socialización para personas mayores solas” project was born. This projects sets up meetings in the neighborhood to bring together elderly people in the area, it runs cultural trips and workshops, it organizes celebrations on important dates such as Christmas and establishes shifts during the holiday season so that elderly people can leave their surroundings for the weekend and can get to know the volunteers.
All these activities seek to offer elderly people companionship, to cover their emotional needs and to foster inclusive leisure time.
Can you imagine what it means to someone who feels very lonely to do something as simple as having an afternoon bite to eat in their neighborhood or go on a trip to a museum, an exhibition or see a theater play?
Thanks to you we have made it possible. Through inclusive leisure we can now improve their quality of life and help them not to feel lonely.
