Improved self-esteem, awareness of their rights and access to new projects and opportunities are just some of the benefits that the participants have received from the training courses offered by the Asociación Manabí. Aside from formal training, the students (mostly women) obtain many other benefits and above all gain a new way of looking at their life and work situation.

The impact of this training has been so important for the community that the Asociación Manabí decided to hold a meeting, held last May, for the 40 beneficiaries of the course in order for them to share positive experiences and celebrate their successes.

This get together also demonstrated that there is a repeated pattern among the people receiving training: they are female, mothers, unskilled and with no way of accessing the job market.  However, there are also men on this course, such as Augusto Rivas Alejos and Erwin Raúl Herrara Ruiz who are currently self-employed and have seen how their labor opportunities have increased thanks to the diploma they received.

This course, which provides a qualification as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant but also places an emphasis on promoting entrepreneurship, has enabled its participants to identify new opportunities in order to set up their own businesses, as is the case with Aura Guadalupe Martínez Ramírez, whose project will be implemented towards the end of the year.

For Mariela Odaliz Velásquez Salguero de Gutiérrez and Carlota Elizabeth Díaz, this training has boosted their self-esteem and helped them to look forward to their working future, but their cases also highlight how there is still much to be done, given that their possibilities of accessing employment are dependent on their family obligations.

The fact that the course is free of charge has been a crucial aspect for all of the participants, since skills training is difficult to access if you do not have a regular income. Furthermore, the course has helped build a place of interaction for people who did not know each other and now share and exchange job opportunities.

Today all of them have the chance to become economically independent. Their future's are bursting with possibilities. Entrepreneurship, opportunities and personal fulfilment now form a part of their lives.
