Settling into a new environment is no easy task, particularly if you have no income or qualifications and if you do not speak the language, as is often the case. The Mestura NGO supports families, the majority of whom are immigrants, who are living in social exclusion and have come to Galicia to start a new life.
The Mestura NGO caters for 350 people a year who are living in social exclusion and have moved to the A Coruña Metropolitan Area. Most of these people are of foreign origin and have arrived in Galicia with almost no belongings and without the basic household items and furnishings needed to set up a home. Accessing employment is a difficult task for them due to the administrative process and their lack of a formal education and once they do finally find work it is difficult for them to balance their work and family life.
Through Sé Solidario, Mestura NGO seeks to ensure that 20 families receive help with their basic living needs and that another 80 families can obtain school supplies for their children. Help us to achieve it.
Mestura's work involves helping families with their social and labor situation. Through the “Basic items for at-risk families or those living in social exclusion” project the association provides the people in their program with basic essentials in order to help them face the costs of settling into a new home and ensuring that they do not need to take out personal loans. With a check for household items these families are given help to purchase the essential items for their home.
The NGO also helps children get enrolled in school quickly in order to help the parents get out to work. Given that there are no grants in preschool education for school supplies or books, through these grants for school materials families can afford the costs associated with schooling. This frees up the adults to look for employment.
A large number of families are managing to get ahead thanks to the work of organizations with the Mestura NGO. Escaping from social exclusion is possible.
