The Mano Amiga de Chalco organization is carrying out the project known as “Transforming the childhood and youth of the Valle de Chalco.” This provides a comprehensive education-- humanistic, intellectual and based on social values-- to the deprived youth of this Mexican community, which started out as an irregular settlement more than 40 years ago, and still lacks basic services.

The aim of this project, which is implemented with the support of Fundación MAFPRE, is to break the vicious circle of poverty and marginalization by means of education, providing the children with the tools to help them clearly perceive both their goals and the means to achieve them.

The educational programs are based on competence-based teaching strategies, placing special interest on collaborative work and critical judgement through investigation, personal development, culture and art.

The Mano Amiga de Chalco school has been working with the Valle de Chalco Solidaridad for 23 years where it has seen more than 14,800 children from age three to eighteen pass through its classrooms.
