The Asociación Amigos del Niño Especial has for many years been providing comprehensive care to children who suffer disabilities and have limited resources in the city of Barquisimeto. This is done through a project that receives the support and collaboration of Fundacion MAPFRE, and which focuses primarily on food as the basis of the children’s development and a guarantee for their physical and mental wellbeing.
The institution helps children with various disabilities such as Down syndrome, hydrocephalus, spina bifida, psychomotor problems and other conditions that require special care. In total, 31 children receive food according to their needs, as well as medicines to treat their illnesses. Moreover, the children enjoy recreational and educational activities directed towards their future integration into society.
Thanks to the shelter, care and food provided by the association to these children, their parents also benefit by being able to devote more time to work and seek support to take care of their families and move forward.
