The Manos Unidas Organization, with the support of Fundación MAPFRE, is carrying out a project in Lima (Peru) for the economic empowerment and skills development of women at risk and victims of sexual exploitation.
The work is based on prevention, the strengthening of vocational techniques for economic empowerment and acquisition of life skills, and stimulating the capabilities of local institutions.
As a preventive measure, work is also done to educate and sensitize young men about human trafficking, different types of domestic violence, and the exercising and defense of women’s rights.
Manos Unidas, an NGO made up of volunteers, was constituted in 1960. It aims to fight against hunger, poor nutrition, poverty, disease, underdevelopment and lack of schooling the result of, among other causes: injustice, the inequality in the share of wealth and opportunities among peoples or nations, ignorance, prejudice, lack of solidarity, indifference and the crisis in human values.
