Slow down and use your indicators this summer
The risk of an accident on a highway is 4 times lower than on a main road. But we should not deceive ourselves, the highways also have far too many accidents and the human factor is usually the cause.
According to figures from the study entitled "Observatorio sobre el comportamiento de los conductores en la red de autopistas de 2019" (Observatory on driver behavior on the highway network in 2019) undertaken by Autopistas, a company in the Abertis group, speed continues to be the biggest unresolved issue. 33% of drivers drive slightly over the maximum speed limit on highways and, among them, 3% at over 150 km/h.
With the #noteaceleres campaign, we want to remind you that speed reduces a person's ability to react to unforeseen events and causes what is known as the “tunnel effect”, thereby reducing the drivers' ability to anticipate events. In a rear-end collision at high speed, the likelihood of dying or suffering serious injuries is far greater.
Although it is not just speed that is the problem. One of the most alarming conclusions found in the report is the high number of drivers, around 65%, who do not correctly signal their intention to overtake. #ponelintermitente wants to focus on this extremely worrying figure, bearing in mind that it is highly dangerous to attempt any maneuver at the wheel without signaling first.
