Study: "State of road safety at Spanish companies"
Over the course of the entire day, we interact with traffic, and when we are going to or coming back from work is no exception. In fact, according to the most recent data published by the National Institute of Workplace Safety and Hygiene (INSHT), in Spain approximately 11.43% of occupational accidents are traffic related.
At Fundación MAPFRE we strive to impress upon companies the importance of including road safety in their prevention system (from the point of view of management, through the mobility plan, training and accident analysis). With this study, conducted in conjunction with Quironprevención, we seek to provide a picture of the current situation and a series of conclusions and actions that will help organizations embrace and expose their employees to a culture of road safety.
In a survey conducted with a representative sample, we analyzed occupational accident rates for accidents on the way to and from work and ones during the working day, as well as the actions companies are carrying out. The study also reveals the evolution of the road safety actions that companies implemented in the period 2012-2017. This has allowed us to know, through these actions, which common performance parameters could contribute to success in preventing these accidents.
The study was conducted as part of the activities that Fundación MAPFRE carries out for the training and raising of awareness of companies and employees to prevent injuries caused by traffic accidents within an occupational setting.
Don't settle for the bare legal minimum. Go one step further. Protecting your employees is part of your responsibility.
