How young people view Vocational Training
Finding out about VT is a long-term project for which Fundación ATRESMEDIA and Fundación MAPFRE are joining forces efforts to promote this model of studying, the full extent of which some young people are still unaware.
To discover what the younger generations think about Vocational Training, we met with them to find out how they perceive this academic alternative; if they have all the necessary information about its employment possibilities and, among other key aspects, if they are fully aware of the opportunities provided by its qualifications.
The get-together was very productive for both sides, as much for the students who could opt for VT to carve out their professional careers as for us.
The vast majority of them agree about how they view VT. In the main they recognize that, as it stands right now, they are unaware of the high level of employment possibilities offered by this academic model due to the lack of guidance provided by their education centers, and the general opinion held by their families and teachers that universities offer the best tuition, relegating VT to an inferior level through prejudice.
They also admit that, until now, they were unaware of the benefits VT brings with it, and recognize that what they most appreciate is the major importance all the courses place on practical job placements, given their feeling that university and High School Diplomas place too much emphasis on theoretical content.
Even so, they think that more effort is required to change the general perception about VT including improvements, such as including English as a subject and others common to all qualifications to hone what they refer to as “general culture”.
Thanks to this meeting with the younger generations undergoing academic training, we were able to demonstrate that VT adapts to the labor market in a context marked by innovation, practical work and new technologies. And that it is an equally valid option to continue studying.
There is a qualification for you.
